I it with much sadness that I just learned of the passing of Maurice. I had the pleasure of working with him many years ago during the early days of the planning of the Interpretative Center that now rightfully bears his name. He became an immediate friend and role model and his leadership was passionate, powerful, and effective. If we had more statesmen like Maurice Hinchey in government, our country would be a better place.

I am so sorry to learn of Maurice's death and send my sympathies to his family. I was fortunate enough to have worked as a legislative aide in Maurice's Kingston office in 1980-82. It was my honor to serve but also a privilege to work for Maurice. He was an honorable and compassionate man. We were truly blessed to have had him in our lives.

I want to first say to the entire family I am sorry for your loss. I first met him when i was in Cub scouts with his nephew Peter, and later when in high school with the kids. He challeged me to achieve my Eagle Scout as well as advance through my military career. He will be greatly missed.
