Sadly, I learned of Roy's passing a few months ago in the HOPE Magazine. I graduated from Hope College in 1970 and had the pleasure of being Roy's roommate for the years 1967-8. Roy was at his best telling stories; especially those about his working on the New York Thruway near Saugerties and later of the Woodstock Music Festival nearby.

His loss was a surprise, but not his professional career nor service to others. As a sophomore, I was really struggling with my studies and was about to be academically dropped by Hope College. Roy became a booster and kept my spirits up and my stress down when I really needed it. Eventually, after changing majors, things improved and I graduated with him at our Commencement in the spring of 1970.

We celebrated with a hug after graduation and I thanked him for his help in pulling me along when I needed it. That was the last time I saw Roy, but his memory lingers on long after.

We are all jigsaw puzzles made up of the people we meet and the events that shape our lives. Roy is a part of my puzzle and he is not a corner or edge piece, but one much closer to the center. Peace and Love Roy.

I was shocked to hear this, he was a dear friend, a rep for me in a disability case but so much more, he was so gracous and became a real and great friend, had a talk with him this past spring and he was kind and was so concerned about others, his life of work will be forever remembered, may God be with the family and Cindy and there children I will forget him

My wife and I just heard of Roy's passing. We are in shock! Roy impacted our life's as few as others have. Roy literally changed my life course after an injury I had in the mid 80's. Getting my B.S. Degree enabled me to continue working for many years until retirement. Roy was a counselor, advocate and most of all a friend! Roy's zest for life and caring for his friends and family was beyond compare! I will miss his kindness and his hearty laugh! He will be deeply missed. May he R.I.P.

Roy was a Saugerties High School classmate and liked by everyone. Reading all that he accomplished in his life is inspirational and a source of hometown pride. Our sympathy is with Roy's family and friends.
