Sarge inspired a life long interest in history for me. It was both educational and fun being in his classes. I'll also never forget out trip to Alaska, it was a wonderful experience.

After graduation from PHS I went on to become a teacher who followed your example, Sarge. During summer vacations students from my classes went with me on MIdwest camping trips around Lake Michigan, to Mammoth Cave, To Springfield, Il, to Hannibal, MO, etc. in your footsteps. Photography is also a connection with you throughout the years. Peace and Joy for eternity.

He was always "Sarge" and was beloved by hundreds of his students. For me he was a mentor and an inspiration. From betting nickels that I couldn't score 100% on his quizzes, to introducing me to the Chicago Symphony, to leading a trip to Alaska in 1955. Using his brother as an example he inspired me to study for a career in engineering. His interest in photography led me to a life-long interest and later an avocation after retiring. His was truly a life well lived, he was a teacher in every respect, and he will remain in my memory forever.
