Peter J. Kneipper, Jr. passed away at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Illinois on 8 January 2021. Although born in Omaha, Nebraska, Peter moved to Elgin during eighth grade with his younger sister and his parents Peter J. Kneipper, Sr. and Alice B. Nalty. He graduated from Elgin High School with the Class of 1944 where he lettered in Track & Field. Second Lieutenant Peter J. Kneipper, Jr. spent his senior year through 1946 serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He navigated C-46D transport planes as part of the Fifth Air Force, Transport Squadron. In recent years, he proudly wore his WWII cap and reveled in the public's acknowledgment of his service. He spent his working career as a salesman and manager. After retiring, Peter and his wife Mary spent the spring, summer, and fall months in Oxford, WI and winter months in Las Vegas, NV. Peter's survivors include his children, Dr. M. Catherine Bird of Elgin, Christine A. Duffy (Dan) of Lake Geneva, WI, Peter J. Kneipper III (Alane) of Elgin, Matthew J. Kneipper of Los Cabos, Mexico, Patricia L. Stading (Douglas) of Sycamore, Thomas M. Kneipper (Shawna) of Lake Geneva, WI, and Alice Moring (Bill) of Elgin; twins, Steven W. and Paul M. died in infancy. Additionally he leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Peter's wife, Mary E. Meadows; his parents; and his sister, Lucille Caldwell, predeceased him. Visitation will be at Laird Funeral Home on January 15 at 9:00 AM for family members. At 9:30, the funeral home will move Peter to the lobby so that others may pay their respects while remaining outdoors.
