PALATINE - Sarah Julia "Sally" Hake, 91, was born December 2, 1929 in Chicago, IL to James and Marie (nee Tuke) Kearns. She passed away peacefully January 4, 2021. A proud Chicagoan, Sally grew up on the North Side on Washtenaw Avenue with her parents, brothers, sisters, and beloved grandmother. She was the 5th of 6 children, and a proud graduate of St. Hilary grammar school, and St. Scholastica High School. She met the love of her life, John T. "Jack" Hake, on St. Patrick's Day in 1948, and they were married on September 16th, 1950. Sally was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of over 58 years, her parents, James and Marie Kearns, her brother, James, sisters, Patricia (Paul) Warrick, Mary (Bob) Richards, and Margaret "Joan" (Peter) Ciavarella. Sally and Jack moved to Palatine in 1959, where she remained until the end of her life. They were founding members of St. Thomas of Villanova Church and school in Palatine and were devoted parishioners since 1961. Sally's life was defined by her faith, family, and friends. She will be remembered for her deep faith, warm smile, and kindness to all. Humble and generous in all she did, she was also an amazing story-teller. She had a great memory, was a wonderful listener, and was full of wisdom and great advice. Sally was a devoted mother and is survived by her 5 sons; Terry (Cathy), Bill (Jean), Tom (Ann), Brian (Kristen) and John (Julie); a cherished grandmother to Christine, Elizabeth, Tom (Amber), Michael (Erica), John (Katy), Joseph, Sarah (Phil) Triplett, Emily (Zach) Garner, Caroline, Patrick (Megan), Danny, Adelaide, Katie, Juliana, Mary Clare, and Madeline Hake; adored great-grandmother to Lucy, William, Declan, Evelyn, Adelaide, Tommy, Logan, and Thomas Kelly "TK." Dearest sister of Bill (Mary Ann) Kearns. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, friend to all she knew. Due to the pandemic, a memorial mass/celebration of life will be held at a later date. Private interment was held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilberts, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of St. Thomas of Villanova School, PO Box 2627, Palatine, IL 60078 or "My life was my family - wherever they are, whatever they did"-Grandma Sally (1/3/21).

Dear Hake Family,

John and I are so sorry to hear of Sally's passing.

She was such a wonderful neighbor who always stopped to see how everyone was doing when driving by while we still lived there prior to our relocating. She was such a caring lady.

May she rest in peace. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Dear Hakes, friends, and family, we, the Sullivans, were blessed to know you all. Your parents, John and Sally, were always so very kind to us. They set a superb example for the type of people that you became and we are all capable of becoming. We will never forget their warm smiles and the many rides that your mom provided us, to Scouts, sporting events, you name it. She was cheerful, a happy person, deservedly proud of her family. May her reunion with your dad on the other side be full of joy!

Farewell to Aunt Sally; Ginevra (niece) and I could always count on a greeting card from her on any occasion, plus regular phone chats relating "the scoop" on family happenings and achievements, especially since I was sometimes unsure of who was who in the different branches. We especially counted on her to "round up" the Kearns bunch for the semi-regular reunion luncheons. We will surely miss her!
