Daniel R. Camburn passed away on February 20th, 2021, at the age of 67, due to complications of COVID. Dan was born on August 12th, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA to Elaine (Moseley) and Daniel Camburn. He graduated from Penn State, with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, in 1976. He also received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Kent State in 1998. After several years in management, Dan discovered his passion for teaching. He started his career as an English Teacher with Akron Public Schools in 1994. He introduced students to the art of theatre, by starting a drama program at several schools. Dan was also an inspiring coach of both Speech & Debate and soccer. He touched the lives of many students and faculty through his classes and extracurricular activities, before retiring in 2019. Aside from his career in teaching, Dan will be remembered for his roles in multiple theaters (Carousel, Coach House, Hudson Players, Karamu House, Porthouse, Stow Players, Trumpet in the Land, and Weathervane), his passion for singing and announcing, and love of family and friends. He received the Royal Coach Award from Coach House four times for Best Actor, and twice for Best Supporting Actor. Dan was also very active in the church, enjoyed traveling with his family, and playing golf. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His memory will always be cherished by Nancy, his loving wife of 41 years; his children, Jenny (Jeremy), Dan (Laura), and Heather (Jason); his grandchildren, Lena, Danny, Luna, and Zach; and his siblings, David (Vicki), Dawn, and Jimmy. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25th, from 11AM - 1PM, with a service following at 1PM, at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278. Heartfelt condolences to the family. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Dan at Garfield High School. His wit, humor and passion for teaching will remain etched in me. He was always at the forefront of new ways to get students engaged. I remember it was Dan and his fund-raising efforts that got the inflatable Ram tunnel and how much athletes and students loved running through it. He was the first to have May Day activities taken outside. He directed many plays which produced sterling performances from even the most "timid" students. I remember sharing lunch periods and how horrible he was at euchre. He was terrific at the game of life, though and I'm sure his family will cherish his time on earth as did we his colleagues and friends.

I got the great pleasure to team teach with Dan for only one year and what a treat! Truly he was a wonderful teacher & co-worker who really tried to connect on a personal level with everyone he met. I called him "Dan the Man" and in an effort to make sure that he would pronounce my name correctly, he would sing it every chance he could. In fact, the last time I saw Dan, he was subbing at Innes and when he saw me, of course, he began singing my name! Such a nice man. What a talent! What a tremendous loss! My heart goes out to his family! I pray that your hearts will soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived!

Danny was a great guy. We lived half a block away from each other during grade school. I also was close with his family. We played together and went all through High School together my deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Having worked with Dan for several years, I can say that his passion was what I'll remember most about him! He LOVED teaching and mentoring students and was a solid colleague. Dan had a great voice and never passed up a chance to poke fun at himself and the world around him. May we all remember those qualities in him and try to live as passionately as he did.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of interacting with Dan during his time at Ellet. Always moving and speaking with such energy, it was contagious. At games I remember his voice carrying out over the field, exciting even me (who was there to coach colorguard - not because I liked football). When I was pregnant he would stop me in the hall to compare bellies, betting mine wouldn't be bigger than his until at least the third trimester. He was a passionate man with a large spirit that will be greatly missed.

Oh I’m so so sorry to hear about this, and I hope the memories of what a wonderful person and teacher he was, and the impact he made on many of us, help be a salve in this difficult time. Mr. Camburn’s leadership of our drama and speech and debate clubs in the early 2000s made some of my very best high school memories possible. These activities were formative in setting off my career in law and my appreciation for the arts. I am sad I will not be able to share with him all of the great fun I’ve had since our days in the Garfield auditorium, or how much that time meant to me. Thinking of you and your family.
