Bernie Holleman Edwards, 91, of Surry passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018. Born in Surry County the daughter of the late Ethel Sheperd Holleman and Nancy Virginia Council Holleman. She retired from the Surry county schools as a teacher’s aide where she was best known for her bulletin boards. She was the oldest member of Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years John Garland Edwards, Sr. Grandmaw B as she was affectionately known by all, leaves behind a daughter Jackie E. Cheatham (Alvin), son J. Garland Edwards (Regina), grandchildren Kelly Elder (Scott), Paulin Cheatham (Mary Elizabeth), Dell Cheatham (Magen), Chase Edwards (Kasey), Scotie Edwards, Shep Cheatham, Maigan Edwards, Grant Cheatham (Brittany) and Chelsea Edwards, great-grandchildren, Spencer Childers, Miles Elder, Lucas Elder, Sophie Elder, David Elder, Blake Edwards, Addileigh Birchfield, Parker Cheatham, Jace Birchfield, Gunner Edwards, Elizabeth Cheatham, Ridge Cheatham and Kyler Howell. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Ethelle Barlow and Estelle Brock and brothers Elbert Holleman and Ray Holleman. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacons Castle, Va. The family will receive friends at the residence of Jackie Cheatham. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad, P O Box 188, Surry, VA 23883. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
