HAMPTON - James Richard Kaap Sr., 64, peacefully went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 14, 2005. James was a Peninsula resident for over 28 years and retired from D.O.L. at Fort Monroe after 20 years of service. James also served his country in the U.S. Army for over 20 years, receiving numerous honors including the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. In 2001 James received his Pastoral degree and served as a minister at Bethel Temple where he had been a longtime member. The son of William and Mollie Kaap, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. James is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Margot Kaap; and a son, James R. Kaap Jr. and wife, Linda Michelle, of Hampton; and daughters, Evevon Ellingson and husband, Arlo, of Newport News, Brenda McCoy and husband, Phillip, of Hampton and Margaret Turlington and husband, Harvey, of Hampton. There are seven grandchildren, Michael, Timmy, Anthony, Trevor, Stephanie, Melissa and Andrew. James also had one great-grandchild, Kayla; two brothers, William Kaap and John Kaap; three sisters, Betty Turton, Yvonne Rubbinaccio and Janet Schwark; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends. The family wishes to thank Sentara Careplex Hospice homecare unit, Dr. Kruger and the entire oncology staff, and Bethel Temple Staff and members for their support and prayers. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday May 18, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Bethel Temple. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bethel Temple Building fund or Missions fund, 1705 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23666. Arrangements are in the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton.
