KNOXVILLE, TENN. - Lawrence Perry Sr., age 91, of Knoxville, Tenn., went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 10, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ruby Perry; his parents, the Rev. C. C. Perry and Mary Essie Perry; and his sisters, Jewel Haney and Opal Whirley.
He is survived by his brother, Leon Perry and wife, Dean of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; son, Ed Perry and wife, Pauline of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Lawrence Perry III, and wife, Donna of Kingsport, Tenn., Chris Perry and Linda Trammel of Vilas, N.C., and Eric Perry and wife. Amanda of Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Will Perry of Kingsport, Tenn., and Ella, Ensley, and Anderson Perry of Knoxville, Tenn.
He was born and raised in Glen, Miss., and lived in Newport News, Va., for 62 years before moving to Knoxville, Tenn., to be close to his son and daughter-in-law. He worked for Ray Box Ford in Corinth, Miss., Glen L. Martin in Baltimore, Md., NASA in Langley Field, Va. (32 years working in aeronautical engineering programs), and Modern Machine Shop in Newport News, Va., for over 10 years. He had been a member of Orcutt Baptist Church in Newport News for over 50 years, before joining First Baptist Church Concord, Farragut, Tenn. He had been an avid musician and sportsman. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Peninsula Campers Club and Winnebago Club.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., with Dr. Ed Johnson officiating. Interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
