Robert Douglas Kirtley, 93, left this life on Thursday, January 21, 2021 to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, beloved wife, Ann and surrounding family. Robert was born in Huntington, WV to John William Kirtley and Fannie Barret Bridgewater. In 1945 while a freshman at the University of Richmond he joined the U.S. Army and at 18 served in Germany. He became an expert infantryman, senior paratrooper, gliderman and subsequently a helicopter pilot serving with the First Cavalry in Vietnam. He married his beloved wife, Ann Levern Wade, December 15, 1951 who preceded him in death, September 18, 2011.

He is survived by his two sons, Douglas and John; their wives, Arlene and Brigette; four grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon and his wife, Deanita,; their daughter, Gracelyn; Allison and her husband, Kyle Bourassa and youngest grandson, Ryan and his one surviving sister-in-law, Judy Wade who provided him with wonderful chocolate cakes. Bob, we spent many an hour teaching the AMOC classes at Hunter Hall didn’t we. We also enjoyed a piece of your mom’s pound cake a time or two also. Your dry humor was unsurpassed. Will always remember the “Here Duck” joke. May you Rest In Peace my good buddy.

Mr. Kirtley and John took great care of his wife, Annie. I was always amazed at their care and love for her. They were both dedicated caregivers.
Thank you, God for these two men.
