HAMPTON - Robert E. Bryant Sr., 89, passed away on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.
He was a native of Buckingham County and had been a resident of the Peninsula for more than 64 years.
After a 44 year career with the Newport News Shipyard and Dry Dock Company, he retired in 1985 as a Ship Fitter in the X11 Department. He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church, and it's Men's Club. His hobby was his gardening.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances B. Bryant; daughter, Frances Virginia Bryant; and granddaughter, Kelli Grahill.
Surviving members of his family include his children, Ann Bryant of Hampton, Steve Bryant and wife, Liz of Tabb, and Bob Bryant Jr. and wife, Diane of Williamsburg; grandsons, Travis, Nick, Clift, and Craig; great-grandchildren, Robbie and Sarah; and sister, Corene Mondy.
A heartfelt thank you is expressed by the family to the staff at Northampton Convalescent Center for their devotion and care.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, March 1, at Parklawn – Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 2, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Suite 104, Virginia Beach, VA 23185.

Steve, so sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope you will find comfort that he has moved on to a more peaceful place with no suffering. I was fortunate to be with my Dad in his final moments and I know he is there, too. My condolences to you and your family.
