It is with great admiration that I remember Mr. Swiggett as both a person and as a music educator. And I also remember the great contributions that he made to the Virginia Music Educators Association. Mr. Swiggett was
a true champion for Music Education while teaching and in his retirement.

I was privileged to know Mr. Swiggett, first, as my teacher, and later, as a fellow choral director. I can still remember him directing us in A'Cappella Choir and recall the beautiful music that he led us to create. Singing in his choir was a joyful thing. He, bravely, took the A'Cappella Choir to the New York World's Fair in 1964, which was a wonderful experience for the whole group and an opportunity that most of us would never have experienced had it not been for him. When I became a music teacher, Sidney still taught me, by example. His leadership as a music educator set a high standard for all the music teachers who were fortunate enough to work with him, both at the district level and throughout the state of Virginia. Sidney, you will continue to live in my memory. The world is a better place because you were here.

I remember Mr. Swiggett very well! And I am one of those students who pursued Music Education, thanks to him. I truly felt honored to be in A Capella Choir from my sophomore through senior years. And the choices of music we sang! They were beautiful!

Many thanks to his wife and parents for sharing him with us! We have all been truly blessed.

May God bless each of Mr. Swiggett's survivors with strength to get through these difficult days and may each of you feel the comfort of His loving arms around you.

Rest in peace, dear Sydney!

Mr. Swigget was a fine man and teacher. He gave me confidence to reach notes I never knew existed! My husband and I have very fond memories of him and the music program at HHS from 1963-65. I am sorry we will not be able to be at his memorial, but his memory will always be in our hearts.
Thank you, Mr. Swigget.
