WILLIAMSBURG - Marion P. Minter, born in Brooklyn, NY on June 9th, 1924 passed away on November 1st, 2017 in Southampton, MA. She was 93. Marion, the daughter of Peter and Mary Onorato, attended public school in Brooklyn. After skipping two grades and graduating at 16, she entered the world of business. Her marriage in 1952 to Billy M. Minter, a Lieutenant and pilot in the U.S. Air Force, would shape her future. They would share a life for 53 years. Her role as military spouse required both courage and sacrifice. Marion endured numerous absences, while her husband served in Vietnam and traveled on countless unaccompanied missions. There were the never-ending transfers, relocating as often as four times in four years with five small children. However, she had a gift for making a home and then making another one seven months later, should the need arise. As her husband rose in rank, so did her responsibilities. When he became Commander in Chief of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Marion traveled with him from base to base. At each location she visited day care centers and commissaries, listening to young families with empathy and compassion. She rose to every occasion which military life presented. Upon her husband's retirement, she took on her most cherished role, grandmother. "Mutti", as she was known to her 20 grandchildren, welcomed each one as though they were her first, whether they entered the family by birth or through adoption. Her holiday table resembled the United Nations, with children gathered from Kazakhstan, Guatemala, Vietnam and Ethiopia all having found their way into her heart. An avid knitter, Marion provided caps for newborns, bears and dolls to comfort children in Africa and hats for scores of Syrian refugees. She gave generously to numerous charities, especially those which benefitted veterans and children. Marion Minter will be buried in the spring at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her husband, General Billy M. Minter, USAF, Ret. She will be missed by her children Mark H. Minter, Leadville, CO, Stephen L. Minter, Tucson, AZ, Patricia Minter-Powell, Watertown, NY, Lisa M. Minter, Southampton, MA, and Lori J. Minter, Williamsburg, VA. Marion was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter Stephanie. Mutti lives on through the lives of her grandchildren: Sara, Nadine, Hanna, Grace, Graham, Daniel, Taylor, Tia, Becky, Alefe, Afrike, Akile, Leighton, Quinn, Kolya, Owen, Samuel, Emmet, Eva, and Lucy and her greatgrandchildren: Emme, Luke, Leo, Harper and Heath. We thank the home health aides and nurses of O'Connell Care at Home, Springfield, MA, and Cooley Dickinson VNA and Hospice of Northampton, MA, for their compassionate support.
