NEWPORT NEWS - Mary Jean "MJ" (Meehan) Kearley, 82, died peacefully at home in Newport News, VA on October 7, 2017. Born and raised in Meriden, CT, daughter of the late William "Duke" Meehan and Blanche (Valliere) Meehan and sister to the late Marlene (Meehan) Valeriay. She grew up attending St. Laurent Catholic Church and Catholic School. A graduate of Meriden High School, Class of 1952. MJ worked as a secretary at Cuno, Pratt & Whitney, Data Products and Times Microwave. She also enjoyed working as a hostess at Tea and Spice and The Cabin Restaurant. Mary Jean continued to be a Cancer survivor amazingly, in remission since 1984. MJ moved to Virginia in 1995 to be close to her daughter Maura (Kearley) Santoni. She enjoyed attending Northside Christian Church. She loved gardening, bird watching and the beach. She was a beloved Mom to Maura, adoring Meme to her three grandsons, Zachary, Nathaniel and Jacob Santoni and a good friend to countless people over the years. Thank you to her dedicated Caregivers, that brought "Sunshine" and "Grace" into her life every day and to Tigger who snuggled with her every night. To Celebrate her life the family requests that you plant a flower, enjoy the birds and volunteer your time to help others.
