NEWPORT NEWS - Todd Waddell Cunningham passed away suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, in Newport News.
Todd was born on June 5, 1962, the son of the late H. Westcott and Cecil Waddell Cunningham. He graduated from the Pingry School in New Jersey, where his father was Headmaster. He was a New Jersey All State baseball catcher and later graduated from Lynchburg College, where he was a member of the ODCA championship baseball team. His MBA degree was awarded by the Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary, where he later served a term on the board. Todd served in executive positions with Northwest Airways, the Marriott Corporation, and was an Executive Vice President of LaFarge North America. He has served as CFO of several ventures, and was recently serving as a consultant. Todd was a devoted sportsman, who reached out to many young people as a coach and friend. He coached many of his sons' teams.
Mr. Cunningham is survived by his wife of 23 years, the former Margaret Hood Smith of Newport News; sons, Todd Waddell Jr., and John William "Jack"; sister, Ann Cunningham Davis; mother, Cecil Cary Waddell Cunningham; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Ware Episcopal Church Cemetery in Gloucester. A memorial service will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Va., at a later date.
