In Loving Memory of Chao Chen Mai Ph.D. who passed away on January 14, 2019.

I worked for Chao for 26 years. I always found him to be an open, intelligent and charming man. I enjoyed his presence immensely.
There was one time at Dallas Semiconductor wherein I had received a poor annual review, not horrible just not what I was expecting. I asked to meet with him concerning this issue. When we met, I pointed out many of the great
accomplishments I had made for the company. I also admitted to owning a minor lot scrap event. I wanted to know why I was graded so poorly. His response to me was as follows: "If you do 10 good things and 1 bad thing, I only remember the 1 bad thing."
I acknowledged his honesty and internalized what he had said. Forever more, I always tried to do only good things and not bad things.
He told me something that I have never forgotten. Good old Chao!
Rest in peace and may god bless, my dear friend.

I remember walking through the fab at Dallas Semiconductor. Vin Prothro said it was called Fab 11 (I think) because it was the eleventh fab he & Chao had built. Such a big task! But my main memory is that he was a very kind man.

He was truly one of the worlds greatest minds.
I remember him in his office sitting & thinking. always making time to answer any questions. His walls covered with his patents.
He told me once, I needed to slow down and think about the issue at hand before reacting. Which made me a better engineering tech. And even helps me today.
I will be Praying for his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember one day him being so kind and gentle as was Mrs. Mai, when all I wanted was these blue dim sum balls and no one knew what I was talking about. He just sat calmly as I was being an obnoxious teenager. Even though I didn't know him I remember his calmness then. I'm truly sorry for your loss, there is no easy way to sugar coat it. I'm sorry. I cannot wait to see you and give you a hug! All my love! ❤

I only met him the one time but very much enjoyed our conversation. An obviously brilliant man with a very down to earth, humble demeanor. I liked him very much. May he rest in peace.

I was so sorry to hear about Dr. Mai's passing. I went to college at CMU with Glenn and was roommates with Mary. We are still in touch and my children grew up with Charlie and Henry as honorary "cousins." Although we never met, Glenn and Mary spoke with great affection about his parents and I know he will be missed. May Chao's memory be a blessing to his family.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Chao's family, friends and many co-workers. I can still picture him in my mind, walking through the fab with his hands clasped behind him, nodding his head acknowledging us as he passed by. We admired and respected him so much and always will. He was a great leader!
