I had/have the everlasting honor of having been selected by Lyle Cameron to be the Chief System Engineer for the USAF Lightweight Fighter and F-16 Fighting Falcon Programs which he created in the early 1970s. Four others and I were introduced by Lyle as being his "Five young Turks" at a dinner hosted by the Commander of the Aeronautical Systems Division at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. He is enshrined in military aviation history. I describe his outstanding leadership in a first book I have written about the USAF Lightweight Fighter, and in my second book about the F-16 Fighting Falcon I have co-dedicated to Lyle and 4 others - without whom the F-16 fighter would never have happened. Almost 5,000 F-16s have been built and exist in the inventories of over 25 countries 50 years later. Every one of the F-16s is a flying memorial to Lyle. Rest in peace and honor my friend.
My condolences to his wife Mary and to all of the Cameron family.
Herb Hutchinson, his favorite young "Turk".
