Another great town Monica discovered and enjoyed visiting was Ojai, California. A tiny find of a place, with lots of independent shops, wonderful restaurants, cozy nooks to enjoy wine, and a great SPA. Ojai is a throw back to the 60's, very new age and perfect example of California lifestyle.

Ojai may have been her favorite getaway when she wanted to escape LA. She took multiple trips there with me, friends and occasionally went alone with her sidekick Simon Dog.

She loved her Ojai sweat-shirt, pronounced, "Oh Hi" and wore it all the time. It made me happy to be with her to make that purchase as she had considered it on a previous trip, regretted not buying it, and was glad to see one still waiting for her when we returned together.

Monica loved adventure!

Going to and from Carmel took on new meaning when Monica moved to Los Angeles. She would have me fly into LA so we could make the drive to Carmel together.

She worked feverishly to find a new route to Carmel that included a stop on the way up and back in some small town offering a great hotel rate she found on the internet.

One of the best we experienced was a newly renovated hotel in Pismo Beach, The COVE INN.

Our room overlooked a phenomenal view of the ocean with a 500 foot drop just beyond our patio. When we entered the office to register, they greeted us with two wine glasses and a bottle of wine from a local vineyard. Our view was exceptional.

As we sat enjoying our wine on the patio, watching a spectacular sunset, a very large pod of dolphins came down the coast right in front of us, jumping from the water as they made their way. It was an once in a lifetime sight.

Nothing gave Monica more joy than sharing her special "hideaways" and having a good adventure with someone she loved. I have been blessed to be the recipient of many of her adventures and the pure joy of her company!

For several years we have spent Thanksgiving in Carmel with extended family and friends. It has been such a wonderful come together for all of us.

Generally it has consisted of Monica, Jeff, Kate, Lisel, Dani, Ashley, Me, Victoria, Kenny and Dean. We have built bonfires on the beach, visited the Bagpiper at Spanish Bay, cocktails at Pebble, food and fun in the hot tub with wine and food provided by Chef Jeff and walks to the water every single day as a group. And for some of us, the challenge of walking and mastering Spyglass Hill.

Each year we have completed a challenging puzzle and raved over our mutual accomplishment. We laugh, share stories and enjoy the warm fire at night in Pajamas that are identical.

When Kenny and Victoria have joined us, Kenny has serenaded us with song and his skill on the guitar.

Thanksgiving dinner is a joint effort with everyone contributing their specialty. We have dined inside and moved our table to the deck when weather allowed.

We have experienced a wealth of love and lasting memories.

We have truly had so much fun in the house and enjoying the serenity of Carmel.

Monica brought a special spirit of adventure and joy to each trip. She was a love bug whose joyful spirit will never be duplicated.

I just happened on this page, and, oh my goodness, how it affected me. Truly, Monica, you were an early angel sent to all of us, to help us be better persons. You were loved and will be loved forever. I so look forward to seeing you again, sweetheart.
