Susan Was a Gift

Never to boast or flaunt, she was gifted with a good heart and soul, which she shared thoughtfully. Reading books, newspapers, and magazines, attending operas, symphonies, and shows, and listening to anyone who spoke strengthened and nourished her mind and wisdom. Despite all the pain and physical challenges of her own, she found time to comfort those who were sad, empathize with those who were confused, stressed, and/or struggling, and help others help themselves. She joked and smiled with those who were happy and thankful. Forever selfless, she embraced self-love and self-respect. In her last few days, she seemed comforted that many of her long-time friends and family members met and got to know each other. In a final wish, she probably hopes that all of us build new or strengthen old friendships among those she leaves behind. Susan Ruhter was a gift to all and a legacy that will last forever.

I was honored to know Susan for several years. She was the heart and soul of the economist group in Dallas. The voice of reason, with a terrific sense of humor.
