Eddie, Lillie, Angie, Michael,
Our own father would always say to us when we brought guys and girls home that, "if you love him, I certainly can like him." Well, when Lillie brought Stone home, we liked him and grew to love him and his family. In fact, they all became family. Mr. Stone was so kind and soft-spoken; yet, he had a wicked sense of humor. I remember when Lillie called to ask us to come to Dayton to help move items out of the house so it could be sold in anticipation of the New York move. Eddie, of course, didn't like clutter and after numerous trips to Goodwill and the Salvation Army, he finally brought in a king-size dumpster. Mr. Stone was pulling aside items to keep, but Eddie was filling up that dumpster. In an effort to assist Mr. Stone with "letting go," we shared words to distract him. In his quiet tone, he said, "He doesn't know it, but he is throwing away his inheritance, because I am going to go out and replace everything he threw away." Our hearts bleed with grief, yet we rejoice in a life well-lived! We will truly miss his presence and inviting smile. God bless.

Grandpa, as he was so fondly called, was a gentle, smart and wonderful person to know. His age did not denote his alertness and smartness- I will remember his warm and gracious smile as he acknowledge your presence. His presence will be missed but he will always be remembered.
