LYKINS, Larry Oliver

Larry Oliver Lykins, of Seven Mile, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on January 11th, 2021, at the age of 69. Larry was born on April 15, 1951, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to the late Vurl and Dora (Wheeler) Lykins. He was the beloved husband to Kathea Callahan Lykins with whom they shared 47 years of marriage. Larry was a skilled pipefitter, welder, and supervisor for over 47 years, spending most of his career at United Group Services. Larry was known to fix anything "except a broken heart and the crack of dawn". He had an amazing wit about him and will be remembered by all of his phrases and words of wisdom. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan, enjoyed history, his Harley, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife, Kathea and his three children, Matthew (Melanie) Lykins, Brandyse (Josh) McKinney, and Zane (Danielle) Lykins; nine grandchildren: Taylor, Audria, Rylie, Natalee, Grant, Nolan, Elliott, Penelope and Nadia; his mother-in-law Hilda Callahan, two brothers, and extended family members; his childhood friend of over 55 years, Tex Mistak, and numerous co-workers who became friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Garry and special father-in-law James Callahan. The family appreciates all the care and support provided by his doctors, Dr. Evan Lang, Dr. J.B. Winters, Dr. Gabrilovich and his amazing daughter-in-law, Danielle Lykins who took care of him the last 22 months and especially the last week during his stay in ICU. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio, 45013 with Pastor Ronnie Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hickory Flat Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask donations to be made to the American Lung Association, 4050 Executive Park Drive #402, Cincinnati, OH 45241. Online condolences are available at
