SHAMBAUGH, Jerry Neal 83, of Urbana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 16, 2018. He was born on December 29, 1934 in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, the son of the late John William Shambaugh and Emma Louise Emerson. Jerry graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1953 and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Once home, he graduated with his bachelor's from Wittenberg University in 1960 and later earned his master's from Miami University in 1967. Jerry was a well-known educator, teaching and coaching at numerous schools over a span of almost 50 years. He touched the lives of countless numbers of kids and his legacy will live on through all who were blessed to have known him. In 1987, Jerry married his beloved wife, Sharon (Allen) and together they shared 30 beautiful years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Neal (Beth) Shambaugh; Sally (Terry) Bush; Renee Wilson and Lydia Schmigotzki; grandchildren, Greg (Crystal) Shambaugh; Jessica Shambaugh; Madison Bush, Kelly Bush, Laura Wilson; great-grandchild, Bailee Shambaugh; and sister, Mary Sue (Jerry) Lawrence. Jerry is preceded in death by his brother, Steve (Louise) Shambaugh and many, many beloved pets. He was a faithful member of First Christian Church, and had a passion for auto racing, girls basketball, drawing, and painting. Jerry's family would like to thank Dr. Tedros Andom and the staff at Springfield Regional for their exceptionally compassionate care. The family would like for you to please dress casually to celebrate his life as casual is the way Jerry lived. Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 10a.m. - 1p.m. at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER with a celebration of his life beginning at 1p.m. Brian Borton and Alan Cain will be officiating. Burial to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Clark County, 6330 Willowdale Rd. Springfield, OH 45502. He was my principal in junior high. He was such a good leader and always looking out for us. Even years later when I would run into him in my adult years he always remembered my name and gave me a hug. RIP Mr. Shambaugh.

Mr. Shambaugh was one of my favorite educators of all time. One of the most kind hearted, caring, gentle men I have ever met. He was always fair, compassionate and willing to listen. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be missed. Heaven is a little sweeter now with his presence. God bless the family and friends in this time of tremendous loss.
