Yes, Dick will be missed at SICSA. He and I volunteered on Tuesday evenings in different areas. I noticed how patiently he handled each dog.
SICSA had Red, a mascot, for a few years and Red would be so excited to see Dick. Even after Red was adopted his owner would bring Red to see Dick occasionally.
Dick would walk, talk to, and pet the dogs no matter size and energy level.
Thank you, Dick.

I met Dick when I started volunteering at SICSA in 1983. He started volunteering way before SICSA had a building. Dick wasn't much of a conversationalist with humans but he always talked to the dogs. Tuesday evenings was his time to walk the dogs but he would always come in if needed on any other days.
It wasn't unusual to walk into the kennel and see Dick sitting with one of the dogs, comforting and talking softly to it. He was known as St. Francis of SICSA with the patience of Job to the people who knew him at the building. There is a void in the kennel on Tuesday nights and Dick is deeply missed by us at SICSA.

I was Dick's first bagpipe student, back in the 1960's. Although I no longer play the pipes, they changed the course of my life in pretty amazing ways. Thanks, Dick, for your part in that.
