Andrew Norby Sr., 77, Decatur, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Audubon County, Iowa, Friday, Jan. 19, 1940, to the late Carl and Rosella (Struble) Norby. He married Barbara (Walters) Norby in Winterhaven, California, March 17, 1968; she survives.
Andy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War and being honorably discharged at the rank of Machinist Mate 1st Class (MM1).
He worked at Dolco Packaging in Decatur, retiring in 2002 with 35 years of service. Following his retirement, Andy worked at Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur, where he remained active until his death.
Andy was active in different areas of interest, including bowling, Decatur Little League and golf.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, where he was involved in the Parent Teacher Association while his boys were in school. He was a member of American Legion Post 43 of Decatur.
Among survivors are four sons, Andrew (Melissa) Norby Jr., James (Tammy) Norby and Richy Norby, all of Decatur and Larry (Bob Fox) Norby of LaPorte, Indiana; two sisters, Joann (Al) Kring of LaPorte, and Rosy (Bob) Steele of Danville, California; brother, Jim Norby of Tuscon, Arizona; and three grandchildren, Allyson Norby, Alexyss Norby and Ryne Norby.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Cole; and a brother, Carl Norby.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor James Voorman officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran School Athletic Department.
