Thomas Schmidt
Tampa, FL - Thomas Schmidt passed away peacefully at his Original Carrollwood home in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, January 13, 2018, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was comforted by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia. They had retired to Florida two years ago from Hockessin, Delaware, to be closer to their first grandchild. Tom was a devoted father and loving husband.
As a young man, Tom proudly served his country for nearly a decade in the US Army Reserve. During those years, he also started a general contracting business which he successfully ran for over forty years. Tom was a hard worker and it was tough to get him to put his tools down. But when he did, he enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his family, was a Philadelphia Phillies fan, and in the summers, he spent most of this free time at the family home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he enjoyed hosting his large extended family. Tom loved to fish, boat, bike and play beach paddleball with his nieces and nephews. He was thoughtful and generous, and made people feel welcome and at home. Tom loved history and you knew he was happy when he was singing.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his adoring sons, James (Belem) and Stephen, his granddaughter, Agustina, his brothers, Edward, Jr., Richard (Cathy), Robert, Ronald (Elaine), and Gerald; sisters: Carol Melson, Deborah Janvier, Marsha Manning (Al) and Charlotte Schmidt. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, and his sister Barbara Tjaden.
Funeral arrangements will be private.

Losing someone you love affects you. It is buried inside of you and becomes this big, deep hole of ache. It doesn't magically go away, even when you stop officially mourning.
I Miss You!

So sorry to hear of Tommy's passing. We went all through grade school together (and high school) and he would always tease me but never in a mean way. I had run into him in the last couple of years and we stood and talked for a long while laughing about old times. Always such a nice guy. RIP Tommy. . . you are now wrapped in loving arms. Prayers for those left behind who loved him dearly and mourn his loss.

If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
