Robert Holt Obituary

Robert J. Holt, Sr.

AGE: 79 • Sea Isle City

JAN. 13, 1937-NOV. 8, 2016

Robert J. Holt, Sr., 79 of Sea Isle City, New Jersey, and formerly of Aston, Pennsylvania. Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Beloved husband of Barbara Holt (nee Chambers). Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Bob grew up in Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia later moving to Lansdowne, PA. He graduated from West Catholic High School, Philadelphia, PA. and graduated from Villanova University, Villanova, PA. Bob was commissioned in the United States Marine Corp. in 1960 and rose to rank of Captain. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, and was married for 55 years. Bob and Barbara settled in Aston to raise their 5 children. They were members of St. Francis de Sales parish, Lenni, Pa. After raising their children they retired to Sea Isle City, New Jersey. Bob's devotion to his wife Barbara and his family gave him an abundance of joy and the time spent with his grandchildren at his shore home were some of his most cherished memories.

Bob was the youngest of 4 children. Growing up with a strong work ethic and strong belief in his Catholic faith. Bob faithfully prayed to St. Joseph asking for guidance as he approached the start of his own business. The many family traditions he instilled in his children will come full circle as they are passed down to his beloved nine grandchildren. Bob took great pride in his family. He cherished the special moments he spent with his family at the beach. The meals that he prepared for his family were shared with wonderful stories of his family history while sitting around the picnic table enjoying crabs. It was surely a full production and delivered methodically. The "Pig Roast" was a tradition shared by all his family and his beloved childhood friend, Don. Bob always appreciated a beautiful suit and of course a well shined pair of shoes. The thrill of finding a "great bargain" especially if it was in John Wanamaker's basement in Philadelphia. He cherished going back to Wanamaker's with a fond memory of his mother Rebecca who loved to sew. He would go there as a young boy as she would purchase fabric.

Bob's greatest accomplishment was his family. "There is nothing in this world more powerful and enduring than "Family" -please always remember that".

Bob founded R. J. Holt Sales and Marketing, a manufacturers' representative agency in 1984. His daughter Jackie, son-in-law Frank and his son Robert, Jr. joined the family rep agency. As the agency grew, the company name was changed to Holt and McArdle Associates, Inc. His passion for running his family business brought him great pleasure and pride while working along-side his children. His strong integrity and strong work ethic was well known in his industry. He was well respected by his business associates as well as his competitors. He always stated, "it takes a lifetime to build a reputation but a moment to tear it down". Travel through life with a positive attitude and belief in yourself and you will be able to accomplish the dreams that were destined for you.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, William and Rebecca; his sisters Marie McNulty; Margaret (Peggy) Henry and his brother William Holt, Jr.

Robert is survived by his wife Barbara (Chambers) Holt; daughters Elizabeth Holt; Jacqueline (Francis) McArdle; Barbara (Kevin) O'Neill; sons Robert J. (Theresa) Holt, Jr; Patrick Holt; nine grandchildren; brother-in-law Warren (Doris) Chambers and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his mass of Christian burial 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Rd, West Chester, PA where friends may call 9-10:15 at the church.
