Mary Anne Aurand
Lewistown, PA - Mary Anne Aurand, 80, of Lewistown, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Ohesson Manor in Lewistown.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Dr. Jesse R. and Grace (Wellman) Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Massaviol.
Mary Anne is survived by: her husband, Edward H. Aurand; a daughter, Katherine Aurand Jackson and husband, Joe; granddaughter, Caitlin Eileen Jackson; nephew, Daniel Massaviol and his wife, Jennifer; and nieces, Kirsten and Brooke Massaviol.
She attended Lewistown schools and graduated from Fairfax Hall Academy in Waynesboro, Va. She received a B.A. degree in art from Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Va.
In her earlier years, Mary Anne taught art in public schools in Prince George County, Md. and adult education schools. Most of her working career was spent at the YMCA in Phoenixville, Pa., where her dedication to the lives of young children in nursery school and day care led her to become the Director of Childcare Services.
Upon retiring, she and her husband moved to Maryland's eastern shore in the community of Ocean Pines, where she was a member of the Art League of Ocean City; the Ocean City Lioness Club; the Ocean Pines Choral Group - the Pinetones; and the Ocean Pines Quilt Club. She continued her love of art by taking lessons from accomplished artists.
Mary Anne and Edward spent much of their retirement years traveling. They visited all 50 states and 25 countries, with Australia and New Zealand being her favorite places to visit. Combining art and travel, she remarked, "It helps to be in an area with beautiful woodlands, farm fields and waterways. It seems there is always a painting waiting to happen".
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Jerri Carlin officiating. A social gathering will follow the service at the church.

To Ed and family,
We've talked about Mary Ann over the years and her Y "family" always had a story to tell. I wonder if she still has that video we did for her birthday one year and performed by the Wooden Shoe teachers. That was a really fond memory.
May have you have peace at your loss.

My sympathy to the family. Mary Anne seemed to be drawn to children along with her art. Children are so humble and open to instruction. Jesus said we should all be like little children. Maybe that's why Mary Anne liked them. John 3:16

I love her painting quote. As you remember her, as God heals your broken hearts (Psalm 147:3), may your treasured memories bring you peace, comfort, and strength to endure.
