Ilana C. Finkelstein

St. Paul, MN - Ilana died suddenly on January 9, 2021, at the all-too-young age of 33, from a pulmonary embolism. She is survived by parents Jacob and Gail Finkelstein and brother David Finkelstein, aunts and uncles Evi and Craig Thomas, Joseph and Sara Finkelstein, Gary and Gail Illman, and her many cousins. She was loved and supported by her Rochester extended family.

Ilana was a graduate of Brighton High School, and attended RIT's School for American Crafts. She focused on her art, and was active in the summer craft fair circuit in the Rochester/Buffalo area. Recently she had been living in St. Paul, MN, where she had an art studio in Creator's Space.

Ilana was a true artist, with an artist's soul, eye and talent. She was known for her paintings, drawing, and sculpting, and had an enthusiastic following for each. Her first love was jewelry design, which she sold through her small business Needy Ego Designs. She saw the world through an artist's eye, aware of the intrinsic beauty of things. She used her art to touch people and trigger an emotional response in all who experienced it. She cared deeply about the environment, animals, and the struggles people encounter in their lives. In her own way, she tried to make the world a better place.

Ilana had many challenges in her time with us. She faced them all with strength and determination. We greatly admire that she never gave up, worked very hard, and beat back every challenge, no matter how hard the circumstance. Many people cared deeply about her. We cherish the time we had with her.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services and interment will be held privately.

The family will sit Shiva via Zoom on THURSDAY at 7 PM. Please visit www.BrightonMC.com for the link.

Ilana, you were one of my best friends and remained one until now. From letting me make simple necklaces to a beautiful piece you made for me, I will always remember your artistic spirit. Your sense of humor was sarcastic and witty which means you were smarter than the average bear. I'm devastated. I'm just devastated to the point where I can't believe this is real yet. You will be so missed by so many. Our Facetimes with Hanna were epic. Our meme sharing bar none-where will I steal them from now?!? Jacob and Gail, you are the most supportive parents I've known. I am so, so sorry for your loss. Ilana's challenges never stopped her from being truly one of the absolute kindest people on the planet; that points to how you raised her to be as a person. Thank you so much for her. I think about her every day but now it will take on a different tone. Peace be with you.

Heart broken over this news. Ilana had many struggles to confront in her too-short life, but she carried with her a core of strength that helped her through, supported always by Jack and Gail. Ilana brought light and joy to many of us through her life and art - miss you, sweetheart.
