Neil was the heart and soul of my high school music experience. While not a good musician, Neil introduced me to jazz and classical music and reinforced a healthy work ethic as a way of life. Our families touched base every holiday season. Our community was enriched by his presence. God bless you and your family.

I had the privilege of being part of Mr Hartwick's bands in the early 90s. Even after 18 years of being a teacher myself, I have never met another educator as dedicated to the young people that he taught. I am truly amazing at the countless hours Mr Hartwick spent during school, after school, nights, weekends, and summers in order to have his students reach their full potential. He taught me much more than how to play an instrument. He taught me what dedication looks like. He taught me what passion for something looks like. I never thanked him enough for not only the memories that he provided me, but for the positive effect he had on my life. He will forever be with me.

Mrs Hartwick, thank you for all that you did to support all of us in both your and his bands. You are not forgotten. I am so sorry for your loss, and the loss of a great man.

I was a music student of Neil's back in the 70s in Batavia NY. I had a chance to track him down several years ago to thank him for everything he had done for me. He was the toughest teacher I ever had, and someone that had a profound impact on my life, my love of music, and my work ethic.

My sincerest sympathies to his family, and especially Nancy. May he rest in peace.
