Patrick J. Curran

Northampton - Patrick J. Curran, 61, died on October 9, 2020 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Patrick was born in Syracuse, NY on January 11, 1959 to William J. and Marcia A. (Coffey) Curran. He received his bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport, and later an MS in Social work from UConn, with an honorary degree from the School of Hard Knocks.

In his youth, Pat worked in many restaurants, and eventually, to his great pride, he opened and managed Gordie's restaurant in Lincoln, NH. There, with his faithful canine companion Lou by his side, he built a great business and nurtured lifelong friendships.

Eventually, he outgrew the hospitality industry and realized his natural role as a social worker and crisis clinician. Patrick put his full heart into counseling. He was a highly-skilled clinician, helping countless people navigate their most difficult times. A keen observer of human nature, his strong core of common sense and integrity, combined with genuine empathy, made him a uniquely qualified and trusted therapist. Even after leaving the profession, he remained a compassionate and selfless source of comfort to all those around him.

Patrick's most recent, and final, career endeavor, was Kennedy Healthcare, a company dedicated to global nurse recruiting. It was a tough go getting started, but he persisted and persevered. Working tirelessly, he was able to bring scores of talented nurses from around the world to work in nursing homes and hospitals desperate for highly skilled nurses. Pat handled every stage of every case personally, guiding these RNs and their families through the complex credentialing and visa procedures, to start new lives in America. To these lucky people, Patrick was beloved.

Pat was dedicated to physical fitness, and was a regular at the NAC gym. He loved reading, politics, philosophy, cooking (he was an amazing chef), scuba diving, helping his clients, sharing a beer or a nice red wine with friends, and making people laugh. He was outrageously funny. More than anything else, Patrick loved his family.

Patrick is survived by his mother Marcia Curran of Rochester, NY; siblings Joseph Curran and his wife Karen of Northampton, Bill Curran and his wife Carolyn of Rochester, Mary Curran Hall and Toby of Rochester, and Tom Curran and Lani of Seattle, as well as his girlfriend, Amor, and her lovely daughter Jazzy. He was an uncle to 10 nieces and nephews who he absolutely adored. Patrick was preceded in death by his father William Curran, and his beloved dog, Lou.

Pat had a good and satisfying life, but it was too soon to lose this brilliant, beautiful, sensitive, wonderful man, and he will be profoundly missed by many.

Services for Patrick will be private and held at the convenience of the family. We are hoping, when we are freed from the COVID restrictions, to have a party to celebrate Patrick's life next spring or summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Biden Victory Fund (or Jo Jorgenson, if you please). CZELUSNIAK FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.

Oh Pookie, my Pookie.
I wish we had been able to catch up after you left Gordi's.
YOU were such a huge part of my young adult life. The family we made at Gordi's will always be so special to me. I can't count how many time I brought Lou home to you after he got his treat out of the kitchen, the late night drinks, my 21st birthday (BRAT), YOU made Gordi's what it was at the beginning. Rest in peace Pookie.
LOVE YOU

I am very sad hear Patrick has passed on. With his help I was able to change my status as a student in the US to a Permanent Resident. He was very nice when I met him to start working as an RN in Massachusetts. I am forever grateful for the part you played in achieving my American Dream. To the family, my deepest condolences.

I cannot believe that patrick has passed on. I wish this news will turn out to be a dream or ordinary Rumour. My dream of becoming an American Nurse Registered nurse was made possible by you. Though my transition from Nigeria to America took a very long while but you remained patient and supportive My last discussion with you was based on my RN License endorsement / relocation to Kentucky where you secured an RN job for me to start as soon as my endorsement process is completed.
Only God knows what happened to you, and no one can question God. Adieu Patrick, may your gentle soul rest in peace.

The story of Patrick’s passing is utterly devastating. I am a success story and living testimony of the amazing work that Patrick did in his lifetime. My family and I relocated from Nigeria to the United States in December 2006 through Patrick’s assistance and guidance at Kennedy Healthcare Recruiting. I had the pleasure of meeting him personally as he was the one who picked me and my family up from Logan Airport. He was so nice to me and my family, took us grocery shopping and helped us settle down that night in the apartment he sublet for us. We also later lived in Patrick’s very own apartment and slept in his very own bed for some time. He left the house and everything in it for me, my husband, and infant child to do as we pleased, even when he traveled outside the United States to recruit more nurses. I studied for NCLEX on the computer at Patrick’s office. My husband drove Patrick’s car to get his driver’s license. He furnished my very first apartment with everything we could possibly need. I would every now and then call him for information and guidance as I began my life here as a Registered Nurse and a resident of Massachusetts. He was more than a recruiter to me. He was my friend for life and I would forever cherish the blessings and beautiful memories of Patrick’s amazing life.
May God rest his soul and grant him eternal peace. May God console his family.

Am still in shock to learn of Patrick's passing on. In my recent life I have not met such a wise, calm, honest and generous man. My frequent interraction with Patrick upto a few weeks ago always left me in reassured and relaxed mood. Am lost for words. But despite never having met Patrick for a face to face interraction am beyond reasonably sure this man is loved not by man alone but God too. He went out of his way leave a positive impact on people's lives , helped people he neither knew, met or was related to by blood of kinship. My prayer that he is in a better place now. It is well.

Patrick was a very nice gentleman, l remember the 1st time I called him and he talked to me about his experience visiting and the way he liked Kenya as a country. He talked about his experiences as an international nurse recruiter and how he started the business with one of his brothers....to be exact he said they were having a beer and they talked about how they could bring nurse's to USA and the rest was history. We then discussed my case and I had confidence in him he would reply to my emails and calls. When the pandemic hit he told me how busy he was trying to bring people in before traveling was banned. He then said with the complexity of things l might have to wait for things to settle down and then we can start the process. Patrick had even told me how he lends people money and they can repay once they start working. He was one of a kind! I am saddened to know that he's no more, l will just accept God's will and believe that he will make a way. May his soul rest in eternal peace. To the family and friends may you all find peace at this trying moment. Fly with the angels Patrick

Patrick genuinely cared about people. As an international nurse,my journey took 11 years to get to the U.S.He didn't relent nor forgot me those long years of Visa retrogression. He held my hand every step of the way and that changed the trajectories for me and my family. I was looking forward to meeting him in person next summer, to look in his eyes and say thank. Thank you Patrick for all you did for me and many others. May your soul find eternal rest.

I was saddened and devastated to hear that Patrick had died. As is often said following shock,”but I just stood next to him in class on Monday”.
Patrick was a friend of mine for several years where we took group fitness classes at NAC. I was struck by his warmth, kindness, caring and sense of humor. Patrick would help everyone in class, getting someone a set of weights, a mat or even allowing them to squeeze in near “his spot” in the far near back corner near the windows. His generosity and kindness never went unnoticed.
I will miss him greatly , and I know the world is a better place because of Patrick.
May his memory be for a blessing always. Shine on my friend.
