Richard, I'll write this note to you, knowing that you will see it, hear it or pick it up from my heart before I type the words.

Pat, kids and grandkids, I am very sorry that you lost the love of your life, your dad and your grampa. He was a fine man and I was lucky to call him a friend. For over 15 years we spent time together weekly. After that we only saw each other once in a while, but even that was good. The last time was when Richard and Pat were at a restaurant a few months back.

So Richard, a few memories. Remember when we met at St. Joseph's House to hear Elizabeth talk about her activities of political activism while Phil was in jail. And the remarkable coming together of the six families to form our spiritual community. We walked our spiritual journey together with weekly celebrations, first at St. Joe's then at each of our homes. We raised our kids together. We were their village.

One last thing, Richard. Remember at our monthly men's group meetings, we decided that we needed more time together? We decided to go on an annual "hunting weekend" like so many other guys do to have time together. We figured we could do it too, except not bring weapons. And so it began in an Alleghany State Park cabin.

Ok Richard I'm done. I see you "looking at your watch". I'll end with a huge spiritual hug. I love you, man.

He was a lovely man who cared about his family and community and made a difference in the world. I know you will miss him so much, Pat and family.
