The first time I met Uncle Sammy when he came to Detroit, I was fascinated by how cool and smart he was. I was excited because he owned a gray Cadillac. Most of all I respected his stature and prescence and the words he told me in his commanding voice: boy you gonna be a Man. Grow up and be a Man. Later in life I had the pleasure of speaking at his vow renewal ceremony with my late Aunt Carrie, and thanked him for those words. He is now in the ancestral world and we say Ase. We thank him for his extraordinary life, we say Ase. For his leadership as an Uncle, a Father and a Man, we say Ase. For his wisdom, we say Ase. For being a great elder, we say Ase. He is with the Creator, we Ase, Ase. Ase.
