Simmons, David B.
Irondequoit: David passed away suddenly on September 6, 2017, at the age of 63, while vacationing in Nevada. He is predeceased by his parents William & Erma Lou Simmons of Spencer, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jean M. Tydings, and their daughter, Elizabeth Simmons. David is also survived by his daughters Julie (Troy Barnes) and Amy of Ohio; his sister, Patty (Ron) Bailey of West Virginia; his brother Randy of Ohio; his grandsons Michael, Andrew, Jake & Luke; his faithful companion Rudy; and numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, who loved him dearly.
David had relocated from Akron, OH to Rochester, NY in 2003 after retiring from the phone company, where he had worked for over 35 years. He was a devoted husband and father and always had multiple projects going around the house. He was an accomplished craftsman having created many beautiful pieces of furniture and decorations. Who will ever forget the unique Christmas displays in his yard?
He was an extraordinary athlete who excelled in bicycling and running and in fact competed in the World Duathlon Championships in Calais, France in 2000 as part of the U.S. National Team. He was a big fan of THE Ohio State University.
In recent years, although slowed by the ravages of Parkinson Disease, David continued to make the world a better place, be it through his work at St. Kateri Parish, his work with the Knights of Columbus, his work with the Parkinson Foundation, his work at local food shelters, the assistance he provided to family, friends and neighbors, his participation in the Irondequoit softball league and just by his mere presence. And he was always ready to share his stories, in his own humorous, inimitable style. He will be missed by all those who knew him. Rest in peace, our dear David.
Friends may call Friday 3-7 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road (between English & Latta). Funeral mass 11 AM Saturday at St. Kateri Parish at Christ the King Church.

I could scarcely believe what I was reading when I opened Facebook today, after not viewing for months. It wasn't long ago, David and I were planning to meet after he had his knee surgery in Ohio. I waited for him to contact me, but alas he never did and I just thought he would do so later. Now I regret I didn't contact him. My sadness at his passing is deep as David and I had always been close friends, even though the distances were great. I was happy to reconnect with him last year and talk about a lot of things we did as kids, friends and classmates. To all in David's family, I want to express my deepest sympathies and prayers for you. David was a great friend. It is certainly a tragedy that he has departed this earth at such an age. David, you were a great friend and brother. I will miss you, as you made a difference in my life. May you Rest in Peace in God's love.

We are so very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. We remember him from IHS soccer where Liz and our daughter Lauren played together for years. He would show up to games riding his bike and was always smiling- even if the games outcome wasn't in our favor! He was the nicest man.. We only hope these memories help you going forward.
Your family is in our prayers..
