Thank you for this notice of Gretchen's passing. I knew her from a far, i'm one of the Verhulst daughter's. I was always inspired by how much Gretchen accomplished with the help of her supportive family.
My sister, Faith with Downs is currently 52 yrs old.
Peace & Grace,

I had the pleasure of meeting Gretchen a long time ago and she had her books with her. Several of us from Denver Options purchased her book, and it was such a nice read. She had some very good poems and I never used to be into poetry. She changed my way of thinking :). Her Mother was an inspiration and taught Gretchen to work hard and go for the Gold. Be Independent and to never let anything or anyone hold her back. She was a success. R.I.P. Little darling.

I will never forget Gretchen coming to speak at our Life Studies classes (early 1980's) about what it was like to be someone with Down Syndrome. She had just learned to ride the bus on her own, and your mom was so proud (as was Gretchen). It appears from the picture she wrote a book about it. What a gift she was to me and all my students!
