Doctor Lowrey was a first-rate human being. He was the father of my best friend, Dave. We moved to Indian Hills and I guess teenage John decided going to the DU hockey games with his family wasn't cool anymore, and I was the beneficiary. He flummoxed me with his dry sense of humor, which is ironic because I have the same sense of humor. Both Jack and Eleanor were doctors, so I called them Mister Doctor Lowrey and Missus Doctor Lowrey. I was always welcome in their home. Great, substantial people. A gift to know.

I have only just now learned of the passing of my beloved Dr. Lowery. He was my doctor for 44 years and also a trusted friend.

I'll always remember the day he phoned to tell me he was retiring. He said he wanted to tell me in person. His dear wife, Eleanor, had been injured and "I just can't leave her alone."

I remember Dr Lowrey driving the big truck and Airstream to my folks home in Champlin Mn in the summers with the kids and on their way to Aitkin. Elanor would spend lots of time with my mom--her college roommate--and he would read all of my Mad magazines, one of the first really smart adults I knew! He was one of the nicest real men I ever knew and I am better for spending that time with him. The kids are great too, and I miss them all.

I knew Dr. Lowery for many years, beginning in 1976 when he would work in the old ER at Porter hospital, in the days when there were no board certified ER physicians. He was so compassionate and everyone respected and loved him..and he loved everyone...especially his wife! Everyone who came into contact was touched by his faith and care-he was the most beloved physician a Porter's....long after he retired. He has gone to his final goal, but his loss is tremendous to those of us who loved him.
