February 17, 2017
I just learned today through a Google search that Roy passed last fall. I have always remembered his birthday, for some reason, and when I saw that today was February 17, it occurred to me that 10 days from today it will be Roy's 95th birthday, so I decided to try to look him up. Upon seeing the sad news that he has passed on from this Earth, and failing to find any other way to connect with this great gentleman, my old friend from 30 years ago, I will add a few words here in his honor, in case there is anyone still checking in to read them. I had the great pleasure and privilege to know and work with Roy for about 3 years in the mid-1980s, when I was living in Denver doing advertising and marketing work for Windsor Industries, and Roy was our go-to person for helping design, lay out and illustrate our product flyers, manuals, and advertising materials. Although he was 40 years my senior, he was such a warm, kind, funny, bright and talented guy -- someone I would describe as "you could not meet him and not like him". I learned things from him about print design and layout that continue to be relevant in my work today (even though I left the advertising field and became a lawyer over 20 years ago), and he shared many jokes, anecdotes and observations that I will never forget. As Rich (my then-boss at Windsor) and I always used to say at the time, Roy was a "great one". As was his wonderful wife, Lena! I kept loosely in touch with Roy after I moved back east, and had the pleasure of meeting Roy and Lena for dinner (along with my then-fiancee) in Baltimore in the early 1990s when they came to visit his brother Harold, and I looked forward each year to receiving his clever Christmas cards (from "Crummy Card Co.") incorporating the photos of himself and Lena and all of their kids and grandkids (and eventually grandchildren) into all kinds of whimsical scenarios. Roy, you were one-of-a-kind, one for the ages. You brought a lot of smiles to a lot of people, and I am certain you are missed by many. I am so glad to have known you, for the period of time that I did. Wherever you and Lena are now, I bet you are making that place a happier place too! Rest in peace.

Penny....I so enjoyed learning more about your Dad through his beautiful obituary. I was fortunate to meet him at your Creekood home once when installing your fountain. It sounds like the two of you shared mutual interest and hobbies and I know you will miss him..
