Evelyn "Evie" Yazman
Des Moines -
Evelyn "Evie" Yazman, age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2018, at Fountain West Care Center In West Des Moines, Iowa. Born on June 15, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the last surviving sister of 12 siblings which included 8 sisters and 4 brothers. She attended North High School, worked for Younkers and Hy-Vee, and was a member of Beth El Jacob Synagogue.
Affectionately known as "Auntie Evie" by her many nieces and nephews, Evie was a true inspiration to all who knew her and had a smile and words of encouragement for everyone who crossed her path. Her love of life was evident to all who knew her and she always had a positive attitude. Her nieces and nephews were truly her devoted children.
Evie was also known as "the hat lady," maintaining a large collection of flashy hats from which to choose carefully for her daily attire. She was a wonderful listener and always offered her own brand of advice when asked. Many of her nieces and nephews will miss her late-night phone calls during which the conversation was always about the other person. Never about her. Her laugh was infectious…her love for others never-ending.
Graveside services will be held at Jewish Glendale Cemetery on Wednesday, December 5th at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple B'nai Jeshurun 5101 Grand Avenue. Des Moines, IA 50312
