Betty Sorter

Des Moines - Betty Sorter, 93, passed away on November 29, 2017, at Taylor House in Des Moines. She was born on November 26, 1924, the daughter of Tony and Mabel Blacksmith.

Betty retired from the phone company after 25 years of service. She enjoyed crocheting, the outdoors, traveling and auto racing. Betty also loved square dancing and was a member of the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club.

Betty is survived by her children, Raymond (Carolyn) Sorter, Robert (Barbara) Sorter, Gene (Laine) Sorter, Rodney (Melissa) Sorter and Tammy (Casey) Bullington; 2 brothers, Jack and Bill Blacksmith; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two daughters, Diana Paris and Debbie Prymek; brothers and sisters; the father of her children, Raymond Sorter, Sr.; and many loved ones.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
