Didn't know Fred had passed until recently, I enjoyed my friendship with him at work as well as away from work. We shared many business trips together but the most memorable was when we were in Spokane, WA. staying at a motel having dinner and Iowa basketball was on ESPN, Fred went to the manager and said "Don't you know the Iowa Hawkeye's are playing on national TV and they changed the channel to the Iowa game. We also shared a love for the Marine Corps and the Steel Guitar, he always amazed me how well he played and was self taught. R.I.P Fred Semper Fi Marine.

Fred was a great guy and a huge supporter of Ankeny P.D. Fred was a walking history book of Ankeny and the Ankeny P.D. in the early years. He will be missed. Kris Greenwood

I sit here not wanting to say good by but say see you soon, we were brothers thru the Marine Corps and there aren't many friendships as strong as that. The family will grieve for a long time as will I, but in time it will get better, but we will never loose sight of the love we had for each other. It has been a pleasure to get to know all the Long family members and be at the gatherings at which we had so much fun and good food. I know you are with our savor Jesus so there is nothing I can say compared to his love. My mind tells me it is time to go but my fingers don't want to let me stop showing my Love for you, but I must get ready to see you here on earth one last time. For the family you have my condolences and love we will never forget you and for my brother Marine I will be seeing you in heaven! I will not say good buy, ever, just Semper Fi Marine Semper Fi
