This man helped me, was always kind and supportive, and always listened to my problems. He made my life at Goodrell better. I'm now 37 and I still remember all the things he helped me through. The world has lost a great man. Sending all my love and light to his family, friends, and students.

Mr. Staffenbeal was one of my favorite teachers at May Goodrell Junior High. He always took the time to get to know his students. He always was joking with them. Mrs. Renda shared a class or two for Geography and they joked about the Cyclone and Hawkeye rivalries every day. Switching coffee cups and sneaking a Hawkeye or Cyclone logo into each others overhead presentations. He was also a big supporter of all the kids in the neighborhood. I am extremely grateful to his efforts and maybe he had something to do with me going to IOWA and becoming a teacher/coach. My families thoughts are with his family at this time.

John did great things at Goodrell Middle School for staff and students. As a Belle Plaine High School Alumni as he was and being able to teach with him was a great honor. He presented me with the Goodrell paddle when he retired. On behalf of Goodrell, we send our deepest sympathy.
