As the son of Mary Lou Reed, cousin of Lew, I got to know Lew from that perspective. I enjoyed conversations with Lew at family reunions and learning about his travels to Chile and the latest corn projects. In addition, the annual Christmas card / letter exchange made for good reading. God's peace at this time of grief.

Lew, you were one of a kind. My sisters and I have remembered you with much humor and fondness since our time working on the popcorn seed nursery crew back in the late '80s and early '90s. For many kids in the Gilbert and Ames area, McHone Seed Company provided a summer job which we hated and loved at the same time. No doubt many were a bit startled by the guy with the big beard and the long hair he kept twisted up under his hat. But those long hot and humid days in the popcorn fields made us all tougher! My favorite memory was arriving late to the field one morning. Lew was coming out of the corn field, ready to yell at me until he saw me standing knee deep in the hog manure "pond" nearby. In my haste to disappear into the field before he could find me, I had run straight into the sloppy mess! Lew laughed so hard and seemed to think I got what was coming arriving late that day. (He was right!) I'm sad you're gone, Lew, and I send my sympathy to your family and close friends.

Lewis, you have been a forever friend and I will miss you. You run through my mind in many stages of life. We had fun and fights and many memories. Do you still have the quilt? If I could come I would wrap you in it. Goodbye dear friend.

Lew always seemed magical to me, so interesting, odd, funny, and rebellious dressed in his overalls and that beard. Mike and I were happy to reconnect with him in the last few years and will miss him. Peace to Lew and his family and friends. Love, Lynn
