Louise Anne (McGeehon) Herndon
Des Moines -
Louise Anne Herndon (née McGeehon) passed away peacefully at Kavanagh House on Monday, June 18, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 65, after a courageous journey with pancreatic cancer.
Louise is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ron; daughter Carrie, of Des Moines; son Austin (Lynn), of Kansas City, Missouri; mother Grace McGeehon (née Bates), of Kalona; sisters Kathleen Clabough, of Adel, Priscilla McGeehon (Ken Smith), of Manhattan, New York, and Marilyn Pritchard (Kirk), of Elm Grove, Wisconsin; brother-in-law Steve Herndon, of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Robert McGeehon.
Louise was born on June 27, 1952, in Des Moines to Dr. Robert and Grace McGeehon. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1970, and, later, Upper Iowa University. Louise married the love of her life, Ron Herndon, in 1975. Together with Ron and her brother-in-law Steve, they ran Herndon's Des Moines Seed and Nursery in Des Moines until retiring in 2015. Louise was a compassionate, funny, and joyful woman, wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Undoubtedly, you will find her boundlessly vibrant spirit in many places, including poolside in Kauai, where she vacationed often; cuddling her adoring grandchildren in Kansas City; or simply on her couch, wrapped in a warm blanket, reading a good book, drinking an iced tea, watching the Iowa snow out the window.
A private memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Louise's name to Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines, Iowa, 50312, or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, at https://www.pancan.org/.

Ron & Family,
So sorry to hear of Louise's passing. She had a beautiful soul and brought joy to all those around her. It was an honor to take care of her this past year on 4East, and we will miss her dearly. Anytime I pass by Mclain's, I'm reminded of the Herndons and how much they spoiled us nurses.
Prayers,
Shannon 4East

Words cannot describe how struck that I was to learn of, not only her health struggle, but her passing. Louise was a gentle but compelling force. Intelligent and persistent.
Ron, you and your family must be experiencing excruciating loss. However, I am comforted knowing that you all must have fantastic and numerous memories of her and being with her. Keep those memories closer these next several days and I'm sure that they will help to stem the pain in your hearts.
You all are in my mind and heart.

Sending all my love to Ron, Carrie, Austin, Lynn, and family. Louise was a force -- of love, laughter, and compassion. I have so many wonderful memories of her from growing up, Grace UMYC, TRHS show choir, and post-HS friend gatherings, and I am grateful to have known her and witnessed her impact on the world.
