My dearest Mary Jo,
I just received and read my January Iowan magazine.
How can I thank you enough for all you and Dick did for me and meant to me through my high school years, and because of that much influence, years well beyond those wonderful years. I will love and respect the two of you forever,
All my love and respect forever,
Jeannie Leslie Johnson

I am very sorry to hear the news--he was a great Iowan, a great American, and truly a world citizen. A man of peace and supporter of education. Sherry Gray, Saint Paul, Minnesota

This note is from Tom Moore former Director of the African American Museum of Iowa. Mr. Richard Stanley was a great friend of mine as well as the museum. The museum owes its facility to the generosity of Dick and Mary Jo. Our prayers are with Mary Jo and family. He will be greatly missed.
