George ( the du ) was a colleague, mentor and friend of mine for 20 years before and after he retired from Grosse Pointe South.....I was a young inexperienced teacher and he was always ready to help me get started, not only with lessons and labs but also just orienting to a new school system and profession....he was a gentle giant , strong as an ox but empathetic to those who needed his help....I also remember the postcards he used to the staff in the winter, mocking that we still had to work while he enjoyed the warm Florida sun...I guess he's just one of the people I thought would live forever.....RIP, George

George was a gift to this world. He was one of the kindest and supportive people you would ever meet. If you asked for help, he would be there. He has left this legacy of acceptance and kindness to all people with his wonderful children. I have been blessed to call his daughter, Donna, my friend for over 40 years! I know his spirit of goodness and love continues within so many hearts that he has touched. In Gratidude & Love, Cindy Foster & Family

Death may be inevitable, but it's hard to imagine anything getting the better of George. He was a mentor and role model to many of us who were his colleagues as teachers and coaches. After his retirement in 1984 he continued to be an inspiration to me as a teacher and still is today. It's very difficult for me to write about George in the past tense. I wish I had the opportunity to express this before he left us but hope his family can find comfort in knowing how so many of us felt about him.
