You know, as you get older, the "really special ones" stand out more and more....and "Uncle Larry" was certainly high on that list for me! It was wonderful that he took the opportunity to write his memoir, "Beside Myself" and capture the facts and the spirit of growing up as he did during the great depression and war-time "downriver" area. I am not at all surprised that many of the posts about Larry are from his former students. He was not my teacher but me dad would always say to me, "go talk to Uncle Larry about that" whenever I wanted to discuss college or plans for a career. I remember just before starting undergraduate work at U of MI, we spoke per phone and Uncle Larry sort of 'warned me' that things were going to get much tougher for me with school......he said, "Ralph, you know how you have been in the top few throughout school so far....well so has everybody else that you will be a freshman with at the U.....you're going to have to bring your A-game to this one!".....and right he was. Our last conversations were all about his book and reflections on how in some ways we sort of wrote in similar styles. He was my biggest role model for what it meant to be a gentleman and a scholar.

Mr. Le Blanc was one of my very best teachers at Saint Mary Magdalen Ekementary School In Melvindale, Michigan. He was innovative and creative with our class of 52! And so handsome-I think we all had a crush on him! He meant a lot to me and made a difference in my life. Although I know they are celebrating his arrival in heaven, I am sorry to see one so fine leave us.

Mr. LeBlanc was my 7th grade teacher at St. Mary Magdalen many years ago. What I remember and value the most is the respect he afforded every single student in our classroom. Rest in peace.
