I was an Alto in the 1966-1968 choir (first graduating class of SHS). Wonderful memories of difficult and fun songs. One memory sticks with me as we were learning a German song. Mr . Everson thought it would be a good idea to have the German language teacher (female) come in to the choir room and help us with pronunciation. He introduced her by name and stated "she was born abroad ..." we chuckled at his statement and he turned beat red with embarrassment at how that introduction came out. He was such a genuine person, well loved by everyone and influenced many young people in the formative years of their lives. A life well lived and we celebrate the opportunity to have known such a great and genuine teacher! My prayer is for his family and their loss at this grieving time.

Lowell Everson was one of my favorite teachers. Very dedicated, he believed high school choirs could do more than most people expected, and he pushed us hard with difficult pieces like Samuel Barber's "The Coolin." He was also a great showman. I loved his wonderful arrangements of popular songs and Broadway musical numbers like "The Rhythm of Life" from Sweet Charity. That song usually got us a standing ovation. And he also worked so hard on the yearly high-school musicals, which were so much fun to do and to watch.
I'm also grateful to him for choosing my younger sister to be president of the choir. It seems he had never chosen a girl before. He didn't think they'd be able to handle the boys, until my sister came along. So he has a special place in my heart for seeing how special my sister is and giving her such an outstanding opportunity.
It seems to me that the best teachers are the ones who love their subjects and their students, and who know how to make their enthusiasm infectious. Mr. Everson, you were one of those special teachers. Thank you for all you did. I still love to sing, and I still fondly remember the big room where we all gathered to learn new music, with you sitting at your white baby grand piano, filling my heart with good cheer.
