James Kent Blanke, D.O.
- - Dr. Blanke, age 85, died April 7, 2018. Survived by wife, Karen Koenig Curtis Blanke; son, Dr. Kent (Jennifer Lynn) Blanke; grandsons, Zachary James and Luke Steven Blanke of Kirksville, MO.; daughter, Dianne Marie Williams of Mequon, WI; granddaughter, Kendyl Lyn Blanke of Kansas City, MO; stepson, Charles Bryan (Deborah) Curtis, their children, Dallas, Quinn, and Taryn of Ann Arbor, MI; and brother-in-law, Jerry Blanzy of Davisburg, MI. He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Blanke, mother, Dorothy Glass Blanke, and sister, MaryJo Blanzy.
Dr. Blanke was born in Saginaw, MI, raised in Detroit, and graduated from Royal Oak Shrine High School. He attended the University of Detroit where he lettered in fencing. Dr. Blanke received his medical degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he graduated with honors in 1958. He interned in Detroit at Art Center Hospital. He completed a general surgery residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. He was the first D.O. to complete a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Royal Post Graduate Medical School at Hammersmith Hospital in London, England. His main surgical practice was in Milwaukee, WI. Dr. Blanke "Doc" loved to exercise, play racquet sports, play Bridge, was an avid reader, scuba diver, loved to travel, and watch Notre Dame sports, his father's alma mater. However, his greatest love and joy, along with his family, was the dozens of collies he raised over the years. All of them cared for like sons and daughters. His Max and Becca grieve greatly for their "Dad".
