Today I was informed that Dr. Wayne Jens passed away.

My 45 years with Detroit Edison provided me the privilege and honor to perform special assignments for Dr. Jens on the Enrico Fermi 2 Atomic Power Plant during the engineering and constuction period.

These experiencess alowed me the opportunity to witness his fantistic insight, thought process and management skills.

His deep concern was to achieve a nuclear generating power plant that would be safe to the enviroment, generating personel and also to achieve production excellance.

The performance of Enrico Fermi 2 has been an outstanding tribute to Dr. Jens' engineering and management skills.

My sincere condolences to the Jens family.

No person had a greater influence on my professional career than Dr. Jens. Twice in the 1970s at Detroit Edison, he came to my desk at work, talked to me about what I was doing, and encouraged me to try something more challenging to build my skills and my movement in the nuclear industry. Both times I was reluctant to change, but I did as he recommended, and the impact on my career skills, public speaking confidence, and leadership abilities was profound. I have often thought about what those visits and conversations did for me, and in my later engineering and teaching careers, I tried to pass on the same message of encouragement and overcoming of doubt to younger engineers, that they too could move ahead with confidence and growth in their careers and happiness. I am forever grateful to Dr. Jens for his advice to me.

And what nuclear engineer can forget the "Jens-Lottes correlation"?

So very sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. Although we never met face to face, he was so very helpful with my Hamann genealogy research and research efforts in South Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin. Rest in peace Wayne and blessings to those that mourn your passing.
