I knew Tim socially in the early '80s. I usually bumped into him after work at the White Elephant in the Stockyards. My family went through a crisis in those years and he was very kind. He had such a calming presence and I admired him very much. I moved to East Texas years ago and didn't realize I had lost touch with Fort Worth to this degree, as I just now found out Tim died. If his family sees this, please accept my condolences. I'm sure you still miss him. What a legacy he left for his grandchildren.

Daddy,
I miss you everyday. I miss making you laugh like no one else could. I miss inside jokes. I miss making fun of your quirky ways. I miss your advice. I miss your generosity. I miss knowing that no matter what I got myself into, you would always be there for me. I'm sorry you don't get to see Jack and Griffie grow up. Jack is at Heights, I know you would've loved that. I have needed you so many times since you've been gone. And even though I'm a bleedin heart Liberal, I know you're smiling down on me when I fight like a tiger to undue the wrongs. I will love you and miss you forever

To the Curry Family:
I am so sorry for your loss. I just want to say how much I appreicated the opportunity I had to work for Tim. I came to work for him in 1973. I left the office for a brief period a couple of times, moved out of town one time. I remember when I came back the second time I saw Tim in the elevator and with his gentle smile he said "This will be the last time won't it?" And yes it was. I stayed until I retired in 2006. He will be missed. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

"It's the right thing to do" he said to me. I had called him to ask for his support in a statewide election in 1994. I was a Democrat, he a Republican. I told him I would certainly understand if he sat the election out and didn't endorse me. He endorsed me anyway. When I was defeated, he offered me a position in his administration. Both times he said "it's the right thing to do." An extraordinary man, an extraordinary public servant, but most of all, a man of extraordinary principle. Tim Curry, you cannot be replaced.

Tim's passing brings back fond memories of when I tried to pursuade him to join the DA's offrice when I was First Assistant in 1966. He opted, however. to remain with his Dad and Brother. After I moved to the DA's office and later became First Assistant here in San Antonio in 1967, however, he was elected DA in Fort Worth and enjoyed the longest tenure in Texas history. During these many years I have enjoyed much pride in the fact that I recognized Tim's talent and potential early on.

My most sincere sympathy go to Tim's family and all of us should be comforted with the knowledge that he has joined that illustrious number of lawyers in the Bar Association in the sky.

May God comfort you.
Sincerely, Charles D. (Charlie) Butts

To My Dearest Family

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say....but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and said, "I welcome you. It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on. I need you here badly; you're part of My plan. There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man." God gave me a list of things, that He wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er; I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who's is sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night..."My day was not in vain." and now I am contended, that my life has been worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way...I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on you mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only a half a step behind. And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free, remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.

A great deal of what is honorable and fun about practicing law in Tarrant County is the result of the many lawyers that were groomed in Tim's office. The integrity and professionalism he brought to the legal profession, particularly for those of us practicing in the criminal arena, is unparalleled.

I am so sorry to hear of your passing. Your were the very best District Attorney that Texas ever had. It was such an honor to have served under your administration for 31 years. I don't believe the people in this county really understood how well you were respected, not only in this county, but around the state. Whenever I would attend conferences around Texas, people would ask me what county I worked in and when I said Tarrant County, They would always say, "Oh you work for Tim Curry" You were so well known for having the highest integrity and only the "Best of the Best" working for you.
