A memorial service for Doris Jefferson Mavis, 93, of Granville, will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Luke's Church, 107 E. Broadway, in Granville. A reception following the service will be held from 1-3 P.M. in the Amelia room at Kendal at Granville. Doris passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center in Newark. She was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1924 to the late Robert and Gretchen (Willis) Jefferson. Doris attended Denison University where she majored in English and Music and cherished her 75 year membership with Kappa Alpha Theta. She was employed at National City Bank before embarking on her life-time career as a wife and mother. Surviving are her children, Geoffrey Mavis, and Vicki and Alan Brown; grandchildren and their spouses, James and Nicole Mavis, Rachel and Shane Smith, Geoff and Jennifer Brown, and Katie and Ryan Parnell; great grandchildren, Ian and Isaac Mavis, Dale Smith, and Mason and Lucy Brown. As a fellow member of St. Lukes, I knew Doris for years as a warm and elegant woman who was generous with her smiles - and that gorgeous silver lock of hair - what a trademark! It seemed so fitting that such a striking feature be part of Doris.
I will miss her.
